AOII Mourns The Loss Of Columbia Dyson
Alpha Omicron Pi is devastated by the loss of our sister, Columbia Dyson, 22, a collegiate member of the Alpha Mu Chapter at Duquesne University. Columbia passed away Monday, January 14, after being found unconscious in her residence hall and transported to the hospital. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and to the sisters of the Alpha Mu Chapter. It is our hope that members will find the support they need through the ties of sisterhood and comfort from friends and family. The Fraternity is grateful for the Duquesne University community and all those who are offering support to our members, while keeping Columbia’s loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Badge Draping Information
The Fraternity will observe a draping of the badge in conjunction with the Alpha Mu Chapter, who has announced plans to honor Columbia with a draping of the badge on Tuesday, January 22. When any member of Alpha Omicron Pi passes away, each collegiate and alumna member may indicate respect and mourning by draping her badge for up to seven days. The preferred method of draping the badge is to pin the badge through a small piece of black ribbon. Collegiate and alumnae chapters may also hold the Memorial Ritual for Chapters and Members, a ceremony intended for initiated members of Alpha Omicron Pi to honor a deceased member.
