Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Of Service
Jan. 18, 2021 is the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy for his work as a Civil Rights leader. Observed annually on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Alpha Omicron Pi encourages all collegiate members, alumnae, staff and volunteers who are able to serve their community safely on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to do so. There are many moments when there are words with no action, but this day is a time to take action to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and serve your community. Even if it looks different due to COVID-19, there are still so many safe ways to take part and make a difference in the world around you. Alpha Omicron Pi is committed to contributing to making a difference.
AmeriCorps has worked diligently to find ways to serve and create resources for locations across the country during this time. AmeriCorps has also provided service project and communication resources in addition to ways to stay connected virtually throughout the day.
