Do A Ritual Turn Daily

Have you ever thought about how you could live our Ritual on a daily basis? This idea came to me as I heard my Eagle Scout son repeat at meetings the Boy Scout slogan, “Do a good turn daily.” I was thinking how we all too often, view our Ritual as merely words on a page. Words mean nothing unless they are put into practice. As a collegiate or alumna member, we must always seek to make our Ritual come alive through our actions. We must pledge to be living examples to live our Ritual daily starting this month known as the love month.

We may not be Boy Scouts, but we can follow their example of living what we believe. We do not need to just do one act of sharing our Ritual during the day and then stop. We should always be looking for extra opportunities to help others quietly and without boasting.

Living our Ritual is an act of love, not just something we do because it is good manners. Living our love for our Fraternity should be done for ourselves, as well as for sisters, family, and friends.

Many of you have copies of “101 Ways to Apply Ritual to our Daily Lives.” Some of my favorite examples are:

  • Refrain from judgement
  • Make sacrifices
  • Be an active member in your community
  • Put your best efforts in relationships
  • Schedule time for yourself

One recent illustration of collegiate and alumnae sisters living our Ritual was honoring Kitty Hinds Edwards (Nu Beta, U of Mississippi) on her 80th birthday at the Delta Tau (U of Alabama in Huntsville) and Huntsville Alumnae Founders’ Day with cards from her sisters and friends without her knowing about it. Kitty has been an active and long-time member with Huntsville Alumnae, Huntsville Alumnae Panhellenic, and Keeper of Ritual Adviser for Delta Tau Chapter.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a list of 365 (or 366 since this is leap year) ways to live out our Founders’ principles like these Huntsville sisters?

RT&J would love to hear about how you and your chapter are taking this challenge. I am sure some of you are even doing more than just one Ritual “turn” daily.

You may contact the Rituals, Traditions, and Jewelry Committee (RT&J) about anything Ritual-related at RT&J@alphaomicronpi.org.
